Sueño

“Pensamiento de un momento que recuerdo, era un sueño”

At the start of the Hyde Park Winter Bridge program, I wanted to challenge myself to push my collages in a physical space and do more material exploration. I came upon this lavender falda folklórica from my move back to Chicago and it gave me the starting point to create that push-and-pull false illusion with multiple printed textures. I used a scan of the actual skirt and had it printed on chiffon to have transparency to play with your eye, and had magazine clippings of the skirts enlarged and printed with a strip of text wrapping around the work to emulate the ribbons of the skirt. This work was meant to be installed in a gallery but now I can not envision it being installed anywhere else but outside, in my backyard. Creating a space outside gave me more freedom to play around with the layout and create that piece in time, building it layer by layer.
